Passing of a friend

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of club member, Ted Laird. Ted passed away on January 25, 2024. Ted was a long time member of the pipe club as a collector, expert and pipe maker. He was also the driver of many of our annual pipe swaps. He will certainly be missed. Our condolences to Ted’s family.

Officer Election

At our monthly meeting on August 19th, the club elected John Enger to the club President position and Glen Clover as Vice President. John and Glen have both been involved in the club for many years and are excited to help write the next chapter of the Great Northern Pipe Club.

Broken Pipe: Rich Lewis

It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Rich Lewis. Rich was such an integral part of our pipe club, well known for operating Lewis Pipe and Tobacco in Minneapolis, a world class pipe maker/artisan, a great musician and simply an amazing guy.

Rich was involved in the Great Northern Pipe Club since the early days and has always been extremely supportive in everything we did. We will miss you, Rich. Condolences to Rich’s family.

Broken Pipe : Dave Soucy

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Club President and friend, Dave Soucy. Dave was known to bring great discussions about all topics to our club meetings…especially related to the pipe collecting hobby. Dave was also an established pipe maker and repairman himself and will be greatly missed. Our condolences to Dave’s family. Once Memorial details are available from Dave’s family, we’ll be sure to pass that information on.

Please join us for our regular club meeting this Saturday and we’ll have an informal remembrance for Dave. We’ll take the opportunity to share stories and raise a pipe in his honor.

Broken Pipe: Wally Loucks Passed Away

It is with heavy hearts that we deliver the sad news that founding club member, Wally Loucks, passed away on November 19th, 2020. His smile, sense of humor and great story telling will be missed. RIP Wally.

Congratulations Dave Soucy, our new Club President. Dave will assume his duties officially on January 1st, 2018. Mark Barsness was also re-elected as club Vice President. Gregg Nelson will continue as Secretary/Treasurer and John Enger will continue as Communications Chair. Together, we have a great leadership team to take our club to the next level.

Club Member Retiring from Pipe Repair

Frank Storm, long time club member, tobacco store owner and owner of “Restoration Pipe Repair” has announced his retirement effective August 1st, 2017. He has many pipe stems (both Lucite and Vulcanite) for sale at 50% cost.

Passing of a Friend

It’s with heavy hearts that we deliver the sad news that club member Tony Soderman has passed away due to complications of recent health issues. Tony was a driving force of our pipe club since it’s inception and served as our club President for many years. Tony was known world-wide for his commitment and knowledge of pipes and pipe collecting, pipe history and developing strong relationships within the pipe collectors community. He will be dearly missed.

Come join us at the Perfect Ash for a Remembrance and celebration of life for Tony Soderman. Please bring your favorite “Canadian” to smoke and you are encouraged to bring photos and stories of Tony.
